Choosing the Ideal Table for Your Family

Posted on February 23rd, 2021 in dining room, dining table, tables, timber

A dining table is a place for friends and family to come together. To gather around for dinner and share stories, eat delicious food, and connect. When it comes to choosing the perfect table for your family, there are a few factors that are worth considering to help you make your decision. This includes the material you like best, the style you are after, and the size of your family.

Today, we talk about what to consider when choosing the ideal table for your family, showing some examples from Studio Pip.

Consider size
One important factor to consider is the size of the table and your dining space. Before purchasing a table, be sure to carefully measure the space you wish for it to go, to save the heartbreak of ordering a table that’s too big for the area! If you have a smaller space, you may be looking for a 4-seater table, such as our Bib Table. The Bib Table is made in Australia using American Oak, and is a compact, cosy table that is perfect for small areas.

Naturally, you should also buy a table that is suitable for the number of people that will be using it. If you have a large family, or are regular entertainers, then you will probably be looking for a table that can accommodate a large number of people. Examples of spacious tables from Studio Pip include the Finn Table and the Walter Table. The Finn Table is a strong and functional table that is available in a variety of sizes and finishes, with the largest being 2.8 metres long by a metre wide. The Walter Table is another design with a maximum size of 2.8 metres by 1 metre. This design is also available in a range of different stain and tint options.

Consider material
Another factor to consider when choosing your table is the material you desire. Are you thinking of adding a natural wood table to your home, or do you prefer the look of marble? Maybe you’re thinking of getting a lightweight plastic table? When in the market to purchase a new dining table, it’s wort thinking about the material you would most enjoy. You could even rank your preferences in most-wanted to least-wanted, and then sort through your choices, accordingly.

At Studio Pip, our dining tables are made using quality American Oak (also known as White Oak). White Oak has a tight grain pattern with stunning knots and grains. Some of our tables also feature other materials too. One example of this is the Blake Table. The Blake Table has an American Oak top and a powder-coated steel base. The table has been contoured to soften the look of the steel and wood. For this design, you can also select the colour you wish the table legs to be, from any selection in the Dulux Duralloy Powder Coat Range.

Consider style
Before choosing your table, it’s a good idea to think about the style you like and ask yourself a few questions. Is there a particular theme or colour scheme that you’re looking to continue throughout your house? What types of tables compliment this? Are you a fan of the sleek light wood look, or are you after something a little more rustic? Maybe you want a traditional table shape, or perhaps you like a bit of a different look. When it comes to choosing a style of dining table, there are many choices and elements to consider!

Studio Pip has created a range of different table designs. From round varieties to square and rectangular. The Vera Table is a rectangular design with detachable legs for simple transportation. Like all of our tables, it can be created in a variety of different sizes, and completed with a range of finishes to suit your home.  This design can be used as a dining table or work desk, and has legs that are reminiscent of a trestle style. Another interesting table design is the Henley Square Table. As the name suggests, this table has a square shape, making it ideal for seating two to four people. Its legs link together in a geometric design, and the design is available in a variety of finishes to compliment the colour theme of your home. Our Henley range also features a rectangle dining table (for those after something a little larger), and a credenza/storage unit.

About Studio Pip tables
All of our tables are designed and handcrafted in Australia. The American Oak we use to craft our tables is sustainably farmed and sourced in America. Each of our timber tables comes with a 2-year structural warranty. We can also customise our timber tables, allowing you to choose your desired size and timber stain, to match with your style and sizing needs.

How furniture selections can make your space appear larger
If you’re working with a small space, you might be looking for tricks and methods to make your space appear larger. There are a few ways that furniture selection can help to make your space appear bigger than it is! Some of these tricks include:

  1. Choose elegant rather than bulky furniture

Bulky furniture can take up a lot of space and make a small room feel heavy. If you’re working with minimal space, try to pick elegant furniture that isn’t too bulky. If you absolutely fall in love with a bulky piece, treat yourself, but just be careful with filling your space with lots of clunky pieces!

  • Add mirrors
Mirrors can help open a room up and make it appear that you have a larger space.
  • Pick lowset furniture
Want to make it appear that you have super high ceilings? Create the illusions of more wall space with low furniture. Choosing furniture that’s lower to the ground can help to make your ceilings look taller.
  • Choose fewer pieces of furniture
If your space is small, the last thing you want to do is fill it with lots and lots of furniture. One way to cut back on the amount of furniture you have is to pick pieces that can be used for multiple purposes. For example, if you need a dining table and a desk, rather than trying to squish them both in, why not consider purchasing a table that you can also use as a laptop desk?
  • Keep the clutter to a minimum
Clutter can make a space look very crowded and small. Similar to cutting back on the number of furniture pieces you have in a small room, try to also keep on top of the clutter that can gather on the furniture. Give each item in your home a set space, and try to return

When it comes to choosing the ideal dining table for your home, there are a few elements worth considering. Make sure to ask plenty of questions about what you are after before making a purchase. This can include working out the type of material you would like your table to be made from, the style that you’re looking for, and the size you need for your lifestyle.
