Retailer Profile: Miko Designs
What is the meaning behind the name ‘Miko Designs’?
‘Miko’ doesn’t have a specific meaning, however, is derived from one of our favourite artists as we were growing up, Joan Miró. It was a name that meant something to us and felt right to represent our collection of designers.

Where are you located?
Beautiful Fyshwick, ACT
Please provide a description of your business (how it was formed etc)
Miko was created over a glass of wine on a trip to Melbourne shopping for furniture. We wanted to bring a new perspective to the Canberra market, harnessing the Australian design scene.
We were also excited to take on the challenge of building a business from the ground up, applying the skills we learnt across a variety of roles in our working lives.
In 2017 Miko launched online with a selection of handcrafted goods from Australian and New Zealand designers. It was always our goal to create a showroom to inspire and curate a range of authentic designs that customers may not necessarily be familiar with. We were excited then in 2018 to open our showroom on Barrier Street, Fyshwick. This involved converting an industrial space that we did ourselves over several months. While it was very hard work, it was so exciting to see our dream evolve into reality.

What products & services do you offer?
Our showroom displays a broad range of designers, from established brands such as Studio Pip, Anchor Ceramics, and Hunt Furniture, to emerging designers including Curious Tales, Fomu, Sozou Studio and Hegi Design House.
Studio Pip harnesses the best manufacturing across Australia, so we always know we can deliver a quality product.
What are some key the offerings that Studio Pip have? What sets Studio Pip apart from the crowd?
The wide range and versatility in design define the Studio Pip range. It’s so always rewarding to work with customers to create a bespoke piece of furniture to place into their home. Everyone and their home are unique, so everyone’s needs vary accordingly. It’s our role to expand the possibilities and help create that perfect piece for the customer and their home.
Studio Pip fits this purpose perfectly, with the ability to adjust timbers, leather or fabrics to suit one’s tastes and the goals of the customer.

What are some of some of your favourite Studio Pip products?
What day of the week is it!? We love all the Studio Pip items. Sometimes we might want to sink into a beautiful Westbury boucle on the Spencer sofa or enjoy an evening relaxing and reading a book in an Ari chair. Today’s favourite is an Oscar chair in a beautiful pure aniline leather which, somewhat indulgently, I am using today at my desk.

What is the importance of Australian made to Miko Designs?
The Australian design scene is flourishing, and we wanted to bring a little piece of that to Canberra. We very selectively approach potential designers. We’re not about amassing brands but bringing a selection of high-quality suppliers to Canberra which we love, and that we think our customers will respond to.
