Retailer Profile: HG Furniture Solutions
What is the meaning behind the name ‘HG Furniture’?
HG Furniture is an evolved name after our original store, Homeware Gallery, as the store itself evolved. 22 years ago, we opened a store selling designer homewares, artwork and some furniture, thus the name, Homeware Gallery.
As we responded to our client needs, we found ourselves selling less homewares and more furniture. However, we didn’t want to have a full name change and alienate our clientele, so the ‘HG’ was retained.
After 22 years, many of our customers have become good friends, and we remember them all! We’re a family-owned company, so ownership has remained the same, as has our commitment to our loyal clients!
Where are you located?
HG Furniture is located at 789 Botany Road, Rosebery, in Sydney. Originally, we began in Leichhardt and growth saw us move to a new showroom in Alexandria. Our current showroom is larger again, and we’ve already been here since July 2020. Time flies!
Each move has allowed us to present more product lines to our clients. We now represent 23 brands from Australia, New Zealand and Europe, so there’s a wide range to suit different tastes and budgets, as well as offering both residential and commercial products. Having a showroom in Rosebery allows us to display these brands to our best ability, although I feel there’s never enough space to show them all!
Please provide a description of your business (how it was formed etc)
After a long career in gift ware and restaurant supplies, I was asked by a friend to source furniture for a new flagship gelato store that fronted a factory. It aligned with the restaurant work I was doing at the time, and I used these contacts to learn about the provision of loose furniture. I fell in love with the idea and set about learning more about furniture design, including graduating from the School of Colour and Design.
Eventually, HG Furniture evolved to specialise in indoor and outdoor furniture and lighting. I attend the Milan Trade Fair every year (apart from the ‘lockdown years’) to stay in line of the latest designs and my passion is to constantly research both new and classic designs.
What products & services do you offer?
HG Furniture offers more than just products. Our intention is to provide a comprehensive service that covers both the residential and commercial market. With over 20 brands from Australia and Europe, as well as a professional team, we’re able to do this.
For residential we’re aware that furniture purchasing is not something people do every day, so our aim is to discover each client’s needs and provide the best solution for them. There are a lot of products on the market and, unless you’re aware of their construction, warranty and features, the consumer can potentially waste money on a piece that won’t last or won’t suit their needs. We will just as soon advise you not to buy something in our store if we feel it’s not appropriate. We aim to provide a service that positively reflects word of mouth referrals from our clients, and many are still referring us after 20 years.
What are some key the offerings that Studio Pip have? What sets Studio Pip apart from the crowd?
We LOVE Studio Pip! Studio Pip emerged when manufacturing in Australia was offering limited designs with limited choices. Less than a few brands were offering anything of quality, and it was frustrating that the best things we had to offer at the time were from Europe. Studio Pip has changed all of that. The quality of the pieces and the designs can stand equally alongside the brands from Europe.
Studio Pip are constantly releasing new designs that allow us to offer more furniture solutions to our clients. Being locally made, the brand can respond quickly to changes in customer styles as well as offering customisations if our clients want something in particular.
Everyone is different with different needs, and Studio Pip’s offerings allow us to cater for the wonderful variety of needs and tastes.
What are some of some of your favourite Studio Pip products?
Favourites include the Markus bed and the new Brooklyn range.
The Markus Bed is particularly popular as our clients love both the leather and fabric versions of the bed. In fact, you can have both if you want by creating different cushions.
The new Brooklyn range is so different to what I’ve seen on the market. The sideboard and entertainment unit are very elegant. I particularly love the beauty of the solid timber featured in the legs and along the top of the doors. It adds to the designs sophistication and curves are also very attractive!
We also love the diversity of lounges Studio Pip offers. You can have a bachelor pad style with the Spencer, a Play Modular for a more casual setting, absolute comfort with the Harper lounge or a combination of comfort and style with the Brodie.
There are more products, but I’ll be close to mentioning the entire range!
What Studio Pip products do you currently have available to view in your showroom?

What is the importance of Australian made to HG Furniture?
HG Furniture has always seen an interest by clients in Australian made, so Studio Pip was a welcome addition to the market. Recently, the pandemic saw an increase in interest for Australian made, for patriotic reasons, as well as the desire for improved lead times as freight costs and supply chain issues around the world is reaching crisis points.
To fully service our clients, we are always looking for better lead times and better prices whilst still maintaining the quality that they’re used to. Studio Pip is filling that gap and with a growing collection of designs, we’re excited about each new release.
